As we whizz towards winter (and Christmas – hooray!) we’ve had some really changeable weather to contend with. From autumnal storms which bring those gorgeous orange, red and yellow leaves tumbling down into puddles to cold, bright and frosty mornings, it seems like we’re getting the full complement of British delights! Changeable weather and a busy diary packed fun things to do means we need the right winter fashion accessories in the wardrobe to stay looking stylish. No matter what the weather does. Could it be that it’s the perfect time to buy some beautiful new winter accessories? Or start building a nice long countryside fashion-based Christmas list to send out with firmly crossed fingers to your loved ones?! Here are my winter-weather accessorising essentials to help see you though to spring in style:

Stylish and easy-to-wear layers

On some of my busier days I go from toasty warm cafes to draughty meeting rooms. Then to the farm in a matter of hours. Flitting between work, life and getting the horse done without the chance to change in between. That means that layering is my secret weapon to surviving without becoming cold or a sticky mess. A snug fur-lined scarf, like this one from Caroline Nicholls, becomes a wrap that I can drape over my shoulders if I’m cold then tuck underneath a coat if there’s the threat of rain!

A very, very warm coat

On those glorious sharp winter mornings when the ground stays frozen hard all day long, you need what your mother would call a ‘good coat’. That means something seriously warm to keep you toasty warm – but you don’t need to compromise on style. The Trinity Coat from Caroline Nicholls features, as the name would suggest, three styles in one so you get incredible versatility from it – and it looks incredible too! The Trinity is a woollen coat lined with a real fur hooded gilet. As well as detachable fur cuffs, so you can wear it with or without the lining. Or wear the gilet on its own.

A robust and waterproof hat

There’s nothing worse than getting your hair ‘just right’ for meeting or day out with friends. And then seeing the wind and rain gathering outside before you head out the door. I adore my trusty fedora hats which not only keep the locks tamed and dry, but also finish off my outfits perfectly. These fedoras from Caroline Nicholls are not only handmade from the finest Italian felt, they’re also crushable and waterproof! That makes them perfect for keeping you looking smart in wet or blustery weather. Plus, you can add a bespoke or off the peg hat pin to match your favourite outfit.

Of course, there are so many other bits and bobs that help us get through winter warm and dry – Caroline also does a snazzy line of gloves with fur cuffs, glamorous fur gilets, fur-lined parkas that will really turn heads and so much more. If you’re planning an outfit for a Hunt Ball or festive party, or simply want to look chic while Christmas shopping, check out Caroline Nicolls. A quick word of warning though – you do risk your own must-have list getting longer than your gift lists for other people!
