Are you thinking of having a website built for your business? Or perhaps you’ve recently had a website designed and you want to make the most of it! In this guest blog, Danielle from the wonderful website whizzes Black Nova Designs talks about all the things you can do to drive website visitors. Some are totally free; other methods cost money. They all have their own unique advantages and disadvantages so read on to find out more!
“We know how much work and dedication goes into running a business and how exciting it can be sharing your ideas or products with the world. But many business owners don’t have thousands of pounds to spend on advertising, SEO or targeted social media ads. Here are a few things you can do to help improve your website’s ranking and drive that all-important traffic to it.”
I have a new website – what’s next?
“Building your website is just the beginning. All the effort put into setting it up will go to waste if nobody ever sees it! You might have the best product in the world but without effective advertising, no one will know about it. Sadly, just by launching your website live on the Internet doesn’t mean that everyone will come flocking to it.
In fact, nobody will know it exists if you do not get out there and promote it, share it and talk about it. The world of website promotion can be intimidating and confusing, not to mention expensive. Not everybody has the financial budget to sink into paid advertising campaigns and event sponsorships.
There are some effective ways to show off your new website for free:
- Tell your network about it (i.e. word of mouth, social media)
- Try to be there when other people are asking about you. That might be in social media groups, at networking meetings and in search engine optimisation.
- Make sure you advertise your website to people who are interested. Use your business and personal social pages and ask for help from friends and family.”
Getting ahead with guest blogging
“Guest blogging is a great all‐in‐one method to establish a presence within your niche, grow your backlink profile and make some connections. All of these are instrumental in promoting your website in the long run. Put simply, you write a blog for someone else’s website which includes a link (a ‘backlink’!) to your website. A high number of quality backlinks will help you rank more highly in search engine results. Plus, by sharing your expert knowledge and tips out to a wider audience on other people’s blog, you’ll also help build brand trust and relevance.”
Get social to promote your website
“Social media is another great way to promote your website and get people to visit. You can set up a business Facebook or Twitter account for FREE and create posts with links to your site. Social media sites are very useful for developing relationships with potential customers as you can interact with them directly. Businesses that do interact (and that means replying to people, not just broadcasting messages!) can grow their audience substantially, in my opinion, and mostly for free.”
Drive traffic through email
“There are two ways you can use email to generate traffic. Firstly, you should make sure that every email you send has a simple website link included in your signature. This way, you’re using your day-to-day emails to help people find a way to your site. People can copy and paste that link and share it with others, too.
The second way to use email is to set up an email marketing campaign. By getting your existing visitors to sign up for your emails, you can send them future marketing information with links to specific pages on your website. Email newsletters really can be a huge revenue earner, again mostly for free or a small fee. People who sign up are already interested in what you do. That’s a great place to start! Email out to your list twice a month or more if you have a special offer. Don’t bombard your audience, but do provide value, tips and exclusive offers to those that sign up creating a desire to sign up.”
Put your web address EVERYWHERE!
“There are numerous ways to get your website address seen by lots of people. You can try any of the following if you find them appropriate for your business: t-shirts, car and van door stickers, shop window stickers, balloons, banners, plastic and paper bag printing, keyrings, pens and pencils, shop signs, mugs… the list is enormous.
You shouldn’t underestimate the potential that these methods have for generating traffic! They enable your website address to be seen by lots of people and are great for reminding people that your business is there and easily reachable.”
Are you ready to get started?
“Hopefully, this has given you some valuable ideas to start to use. Please do feel free to share and tag us in your promotion as we love to see you all taking action and promoting what you do! SEO is not an easy task and it takes time to put everything into place. The goalposts are always changing with SEO, so you may need to keep reviewing it. However, once your website starts ranking for your keywords, you will find a significant increase in the number of people who visit your site. Once your visitor numbers are high it’s a great time to start analysing the success of the website. We’ll be diving into that one in more detail in our next guest blog for Tara!”
