An epic Summer so far for British brand Caroline Nicholls
Summer is known as a carefree time for people but in reality, life does carry on as normal! Has this summer been epic and kind to you? It’s amazing how different everyone’s story is. Mine has certainly had its ups and downs – from the highs of going VAT registered and limited, celebrating my first wedding anniversary and regularly selling out my coaching programmes to getting kicked by a horse and missing one of my favourite equestrian events of the season.
Luckily, I have plenty of support to enable me to keep going. But it’s been so frustrating to have to sit and wait to feel better. I’m just not very good at being patient about things!
The best kind of pick-me-up – happy clients!
I’m so lucky that if I am feeling a little down, I have a constant flow of one of my favourite ‘pick me ups’ throughout the day. I just adore seeing my clients doing well! There’s nothing quite like hearing from clients who are smashing their revenue targets or getting coverage in magazines. To bringing out amazing new products or getting recognised at industry events.
This summer has been quite simply EPIC for one of them – the lovely Caroline Nicholls. This talented Somerset-based milliner and country clothing designer has had a whirlwind ride this year. And it’s been amazing to be working with her.
Caroline started her business just over two years ago. Since then she’s worked so hard to develop it into the go-to brand for head-turning hats and fabulous furs (all ethically-sourced, of course). What’s even more impressive is that Caroline juggles her business with being a brilliant single mum. So she really is wonder woman in disguise!
Events galore in the best summer ever
Caroline’s epic year has been defined by her taking the step from attending local shows this summer and point-to-points to her exhibiting at some of the biggest events in the equestrian and countryside calendar. In May, Caroline took a stand at the prestigious Badminton Horse Trials for the first time and it was an incredible success! It was brilliant to see Caroline alongside long-established equestrian and countryside businesses and see excited ladies heading to the stand for a spot of shopping!
June saw the annual Royal Ascot fashion parade get underway and there were plenty of Caroline’s designs in the mix, looking as fabulous as ever. Creating bespoke hats and fascinators to match the outfits ladies have chosen for the races is one of Caroline’s favourite things to do, and sharing the images of them on the big day makes her so proud and happy.
In July Caroline took a stand at both the Lycetts Festival of Hunting and the Game Fair at Hatfield House. Both events were wonderful (if slightly wet at times for the Game Fair!) celebrations of the British countryside. Her waterproof fedoras were the perfect purchase for visitors trying to avoid the rain at the Game Fair. Her game bird feather hat pins were a hit too! Both events were perfect places to spread the word about Caroline’s fabulous designs with new audiences and make connections for future hat commissions.
An eye on the future
So, what’s next for Caroline in her grand plans for world (or at least country clothing!) domination? The Cheltenham Festival is where it all started for her brand. And it’s where Caroline would dearly love to be able to take her brand in the future. Perhaps we’ll see racegoers there snapping up her designs before too long?
There are plans underway to double the size of Caroline’s Somerset showroom and create her a workshop on the shop floor, so that prospective customers can see her at work. Finally, a new autumn/winter line with luxurious shearling is not far off and I can’t wait to share that with you when it launches.
If you’re heading to Hartpury British Eventing Horse Trials from the 7th to the 10th of August make sure you drop in to say hello. I have to warn you though, your current shopping wish list might grow a little longer as a result! Take a look at her website to whet your appetite: https://carolinenicholls.com
