Olivia Tullett’s tweed designs will take you effortlessly from the business meeting to bar – via the stables, if needed!
It’s no secret that I just adore wearing tweed – it’s the perfect choice to take me from daytime business meetings to drinks in the evening. Whilst being durable and warm enough that if I need to sort my horse out or help with a quick job on the farm in between, I don’t need to change.
Tweed is now a staple part of any fashion lover’s wardrobe. Regardless of whether they live in the town or the countryside. So it might surprise you to hear that there used to be a saying amongst the middle and upper classes that there should be ‘no tweed in town’.
Back then, heavy woollen tweed was very much the preserve of country folk. Or those who had the privilege of heading to beautiful sporting estates in England and Scotland for driven game shooting, fly fishing or deer stalking. Tweed conjured up images of stout legs in plus fours, heavy, long coats and drab waistcoats with straining buttons, and the smell of damp wool. It was certainly not considered to be appropriate for wearing into town or for business meetings!
Take a look around today, and you’ll see elegant, well-cut and fashionable tweed in a wide range of social situations. From weddings and christenings to business meetings and evenings out in town. What’s even better is that there are some truly fabulous brands who are doing amazing things with tweed. So you don’t need to follow the crowd when you head out to buy your newest tweed garment.
British designer Olivia Tullett may be best-known for her award-winning, eponymous Olivia Shooting Jacket and the stunning Bella Shooting Gilet. But did you know she also has a collection of beautiful tweed country wear? Tweed is Olivia’s go-to fabric and she loves nothing more than combining it with her keen eye for detail and cut to create beautiful clothing that flatters the female figure.
Olivia’s take on the classic tweed mini, the Lola Skirt, is a modern, asymmetrical twist on the traditional A-line skirt. With gorgeous leather panelling and button detailing on the front. The Clara Poncho is extra layer for trans-seasonal days and can be crafted from over 200 gorgeous heritage tweeds and stunning complimentary linings.
The aforementioned Bella Gilet, despite being designed very much with shooting in mind, looks incredible styled as a piece of lifestyle clothing with some white jeans and a pair of beautiful Spanish-style riding boots…
There are new pieces being unveiled all the time and Olivia’s range is set to grow and grow during 2019. So make sure you keep a close eye on her website and social media for announcements.
