Instagram stories are a must for 2018 – why & how you should use them
Instagram stories are a relatively new phenomenon in the world of social media. They’ve been around for 18 months and have shown exceptional growth in the last 6 months alone. Their aim? To give the viewer a behind the scenes insight into their lives or businesses. So who uses them?
With over 800 million monthly users and 25 million businesses across an easy to manage system, it’s surely inevitable that you should have a presence? It’s a delightful platform full of beauty, positivity and imagery of exquisite standards. It’s easy to work with, you can use up to 20 specific hashtags per post (and make sure you do use them) to attract and target your ideal audience and following and it’s great for interacting with the outside world. Interestingly, a whopping two thirds of profile visits to business accounts this year came from people who aren’t following that business. So, once you get them there, you need to keep them. The key? Exceptional content.
The real power of Instagram stories comes in two aspects. Firstly, you’re giving your follower a behind the scenes view to your life as a business owner. You might share your packaging strategy, your lunch or your diary planning. It’s generally things you wouldn’t wish to publish to your page. People are intrigued by the behind the scenes. They want to know what you’re doing when you’re first at your laptop in the morning. Or how you spend half your life on the road visiting clients or customers. The other angle is that in sharing regular Instagram Story updates, you continue to appear at the beginning of the recent stories at the top of the main newsfeed. In terms of brand awareness, this is key. Keep popping up in peoples minds until they’re begging you for your products or your services.
Instagram stories are such a success in fact, that Facebook now has a story section for business pages.
When you go onto Instagram, go to the main newsfeed and click on the camera icon in the top left hand corner. Here there are a number of options for your story – Live (informs every one of your followers that you’ve gone live), normal (photograph), Boomerang (plays short videos forwards and backwards on a loop – best to have a play around with this one) and hands free.
